How to choose a crimping tool for a terminal order
Choose a candidate tool from the terminal it must process, not from the handle colour or a photograph. Ask the supplier to identify the terminal family, conductor range and die or jaw used for your actual order.

A tool comparison sheet that avoids ambiguous offers
| Check | Information to request |
|---|---|
| Terminal family | Name the ferrule, insulated terminal, open-barrel contact or lug family. Include your actual terminal reference. |
| Working range | Record the size range needed by your order, including any twin-ferrule requirement as a separate field. |
| Die or jaw | Ask whether the working profile is fixed or replaceable and record the proposed die identification. |
| Sample check | Request a sample made with the stated terminal, conductor and tool combination, with the combination recorded. |
Before approving the purchase
When an offer says “universal”, ask the supplier to replace that word with a list of supported combinations. Compare only offers that answer the same terminal and conductor requirement. Keep the original terminal and tool documents together.
What to send next
For repeat purchases, save the approved model, die, terminal and sample record. A similar-looking replacement should go through the same confirmation, not inherit approval automatically.
