Square or hexagonal ferrule crimp: what to confirm
Do not decide that square or hexagonal crimping is always better. For procurement, the useful question is whether the proposed profile and complete tool combination are suitable for the ferrule and receiving terminal in your application.

Use a confirmation matrix
| Check | Information to request |
|---|---|
| Receiving terminal | Record the manufacturer, model and accepted conductor preparation from its documentation. |
| Ferrule | Identify size, length and single or twin construction; keep these fixed while comparing tools. |
| Tool proposal | Ask for the exact tool/profile and supporting application information, not just “square” or “hex”. |
| Approval evidence | Request a sample and a written record of the combination reviewed by your technical team. |
Before approving the purchase
If neither offer identifies the receiving terminal, a profile-only price comparison is incomplete. Ask for the missing application data before selecting the cheaper tool. Do not force a decision from matching cross-section numbers alone.
What to send next
A useful purchase approval states which combination was checked and who approved it. It does not make a universal claim that one shape fits every terminal.
