Cable gland sizing: cable diameter and thread are separate checks
A cable gland enquiry needs the cable and the mounting opening described separately. A thread designation alone does not explain the cable outside diameter to be accommodated. Send both before comparing model prices.

Prepare a dimensional pair
| Check | Information to request |
|---|---|
| Cable | Give the actual specified outside diameter, its tolerance if known, and the cable construction to be reviewed. |
| Opening | State the required thread system, size and pitch where applicable. Include an enclosure drawing if available. |
| Panel arrangement | Describe the panel thickness and whether mating hardware or seals must be supplied with the gland. |
| Conditions | State indoor/outdoor use and any required protection or environmental rating; request evidence for the exact assembled product. |
Before approving the purchase
If an offer matches the mounting thread but does not state the cable range, it remains incomplete. If it matches the cable range but uses another thread, treat it as an alternative requiring enclosure approval.
What to send next
Ask the supplier to identify included components in the quotation. Do not infer an assembly’s sealing performance from the gland’s appearance or from another manufacturer’s example.
